In the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, the Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings have won both of their games thus far. The IPL 2022 finalists, Rajasthan Royals, dominated their season-opening victory, and the Sanju Samson-led team aimed for a repeat performance in their second match.
The Punjab Kings, who were playing the Rajasthan Royals, batted first and got off to a fantastic start owing to tenacious innings from Prabhsimran Singh and captain Shikhar Dhawan. The opening batsman, a 22-year-old, scored 60 runs off of 34 deliveries, while Dhawan played an undefeated 86-run inning.
Following the game, Prabhsimran came up to discuss how Shikhar Dhawan encouraged him to perform better and helped him overcome his setbacks. “With my maiden fifty in my five years of playing in the IPL, I’m very grateful to God. It was a fun knock, and I aim to keep it that way, “as stated by Prabhsimran Singh in a video that the IPL produced.
“As I had never before faced Trent Boult, Shikhar Dhawan questioned whether I should take the strike. But I responded that I would accept the strike. He supported me throughout the entire game. He always advised me to play my natural game and express myself while we were batting, and the rest I’d take care off,” he added.
In the IPL 2023, the Rajasthan Royals suffered their first defeat.
The visitors scored 197 runs against the Punjab Kings in the eighth game of the IPL 2023 in Guwahati. The first champions opened their innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravichandran Ashwin. Due to the early dismissals of both of the openers, Rajasthan was under even more pressure when star batsman Jos Buttler was also bowled for only 19 runs. Sanju Samson, the team’s captain, still gave them some hope with a pivotal 42-run performance. After that, the run chase saw Impact players Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer form a strong connection toward the end, but the Punjab Kings were able to defend the target and win by five runs.
