The Proteas and West Indies played a second Twenty20 International, and Reeza Hendricks and Romario Shepherd, respectively, gave outstanding performances with the bat and the ball to remind the Johannesburg Super Kings of their talent and ability in front of the SA20 auction on October 1.
The Super Kings cut both players after Season 3, although they might be re-awarded at auction, especially in light of their Tarouba, Trinidad, performances.
Shepherd is a prime example; following Season 1, the Super Kings released the all-rounder from the West Indies, only for him to rejoin the Wanderers following the auction for Season 2.
Hendricks scored a brisk eighteen-ball forty-four (6×4; 2×6; SR 244), but it was Shepherd who produced the Player of the Match performance, racking up 3/15 to force a Proteas collapse as the visitors were bowled out for 149, needing 180 to win. With the 30-run triumph, the Windies defeated the Proteas in a T20I series for the third time in a row.

With two potential international signings left, the Super Kings had R3.925 million to spend on three players going into the auction. After sending Dayyaan Galiem to the Paarl Royals in exchange for wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, which may force Shepherd back into the picture, the Wanderers-based team now only has one seam bowling all-round player in former Proteas and Namibian international David Wiese.
