Gautam Gambhir has the difficult task of upholding the high standards set by his predecessors as he takes over as head coach of India. One of the most successful coaches in India, Ravi Shastri, recently offered his opinions on Gambhir’s hiring.
Significant accomplishments during Shastri’s time as head coach included Australia’s back-to-back Test series wins and India’s ascent to the top of the Test rankings for five straight years. These achievements have raised the expectations for Gambhir to meet and beyond.
Ravi Shastri has stated that he was optimistic about Gambhir’s coaching abilities. He emphasised the former opener’s extensive experience as a great asset, citing his recent IPL success in particular.
Because of his IPL engagement, Shastri highlighted Gambhir’s familiarity with current players, particularly in white-ball cricket. Given this information and Gambhir’s standing, the team may benefit from a new viewpoint.
“He’s modern; he recently finished an incredible IPL season. He’s young enough, in my opinion, and he’ll bring new ideas. Having been a member of IPL teams, he is familiar with most of the players, particularly in the white-ball format. Shastri stated, “I find it refreshing, therefore,” on The ICC Review Show.
I believe he has the resources and skills necessary for the job: Ravi Shastri
Shastri did not hold back while highlighting the difficulties that lay ahead, though. He emphasised the value of player management, saying that even with Gambhir’s well-established squad, it will be essential to be able to instill new ideas in veteran players.
“And we are aware that Gautam is a straight-forward person. He’ll also have his own thoughts. He also benefits from having a crew that is experienced. His crew is well-established and experienced. “I believe that although you may consider yourself mature, you could use some new perspectives,” he continued.
Thus, I anticipate some fascinating times. Naturally, a coach’s ability to handle players becomes crucial. Thus, it will be intriguing to see his progress. I believe he has the experience, the right tools, and the goods for the job,” he continued.
The former coach also emphasised how important it was for Gambhir to get a personal understanding of his players fast. Shastri believes these elements will support the team on the pitch and increase their number of victories.
It just comes down to getting to know his teammates as soon as possible. What sort of people they are, what their strengths are, and what kinds of temperaments do they have? What character traits do they have? To understand a human being, a lot happens behind the scenes “Shastri said in conclusion.
