After Babar Azam‘s poor series with the bat against Bangladesh, Pakistan’s red-ball captain Shan Masood stepped in to help him. Babar’s poor average of 16 runs scored in four innings during the series was the only thing that separated him from victory. Notably, Pakistan lost both of the games they played in their inaugural Test series against Bangladesh, losing by a score of 0–2.
“We need to focus on implementing selection uniformity. You’ll have to put up with the player’s mistakes. In the press conference held following Pakistan’s defeat by six wickets in the second and final Test, Masood stated, “It’s not just about Babar Azam. The more consistently you give someone a chance, the better he will perform.” Both fans and analysts heavily criticised Babar Azam for his pitiful performance in the series.
Shan Masood, on the other hand, backed the former captain and emphasised the value of providing players in the red-ball area with lengthier ropes.
You’ll need to look for a place to find the player who, in their current form, may be an automatic selection. We don’t have a lot of options because we’re not currently playing red ball cricket. We used the same squad that we brought to Australia, and they performed well both at home and abroad for Pakistan,” he continued.
Notably, in his last 16 innings, Babar has failed to add to his already impressive 26 half-centuries in the longest format. His best score in this section is just 41. In the same time frame, the Lahore native has scored 331 runs at an average of 20.68.

Following the defeat in the second meeting, which concluded on Tuesday, September 3, Pakistan has lost all ten of its home Test matches. When the Asian titans host England for a three-match Test series next month, the job will only get harder. Bangladesh will celebrate their historic series win in the interim before travelling to India later this month to play two Tests and three Twenty20 Internationals against Rohit Sharma’s team.
