Unfortunately, Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh, will not be playing in his team’s final match of the ODI World Cup 2023 against Australia on Saturday, November 11 in Pune due to an injury to his left index finger.
The prominent all-round player was hurt on Monday in Delhi while batting in the match against Sri Lanka. With 53 balls remaining, he struck 82 off just 65 balls to help Bangladesh win by three wickets.

Bangladesh had only two wins and six loses from their eight games, which puts them at No. 7 on the points table. Although they have already lost, they still have a strong possibility of qualifying for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 if they place in the top eight (because Pakistan has already been selected as the hosts). But teams like England and the Netherlands, ranked ninth and tenth, respectively, are not going down without a fight. That is precisely why the “Bangla Tigers” game against Australia will be so important.
Following the game, Shakib Al Hasan received an X-ray, which verified the fracture.
National Team Physio Bayjedul Islam Khan described Shakib’s injury and predicted that it would take the 36-year-old three to four weeks to recover.
Early in his innings, Shakib took a blow to his left index finger, but he batted anyway, using painkillers and supporting tape. Following the match, he had an emergency X-ray in Delhi, which verified the left PIP joint fracture. Three to four weeks is the estimated time of recovery. He’s going to start his rehabilitation in Bangladesh today,” Bayjedul informed the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Shakib Al Hasan World Cup campaign was dismal as he averaged just 26.57 and managed just 186 runs in seven games. The great cricket player took nine wickets at a rate of 36.56 with the ball. But the Bangladeshi team will lose his experience in the locker room.
