Babar Azam resigned as captain after the 2023 ODI World Cup. The selection of Shan Masood as the red-ball team captain and Shaheen Shah Afridi as the T20I captain was then made public by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Within six months of Babar’s resignation, PCB contacted him again and appointed him as the white-ball captain after Pakistan lost 4-1 in Shaheen’s first series as captain.
Again, Pakistan failed under Babar. They were eliminated in the first round of the T20 World Cup after losing to the USA and India in the group stage. He was under a great deal of strain as a result, and there are now rumours that he was fired. In a recent statement, former cricket player Moin Khan discussed the situation and said that Shaheen was a great candidate for T20I captain and that his removal was unfair.
“Shaheen Afridi is well-liked by the players and possesses the ability to lead the team”
He is a great option to be the T20 captain. I don’t think anyone else would be a good fit for the post in white-ball cricket. It was unfair to remove him from the captaincy, according to a remark from Moin obtained by India Today.
Moin Khan desires a single captain for every format
Moin requests that the PCB designate a player for each of the three forms and that the passing of the captaincy baton cease. He pointed out that players could not feel safe if there are frequent changes in captaincy or if there are several captains. He wants the captain to have a long-term guarantee from PCB that the team will play well.
If the captain is constantly changing, the players can stop listening to him. The team’s performance will increase if the cricket board gives the captain unwavering support and guarantees them a long-term responsibility,” he continued.

Notably, Lahore Qalandars won the Pakistan Super League in consecutive years under Shahen’s leadership. In the domestic Champions One Day Cup, where he is currently heading the Lions, his team lost badly to the Stallions, losing by 133 runs.
