When the West Indies go on a challenging visit to Australia in January to play Pat Cummins’ team in two Tests, three ODIs, and three Twenty20 Internationals, they will want to show off.
The World Test Champions will be the opponent in the red-ball leg of the multi-format series Down Under, and Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced their 15-man team on Thursday, December 21. The team that does not include all-rounder Kyle Mayers and former captain Jason Holder has up to seven uncapped players on it. The two seasoned players informed Cricket West Indies (CWI) that they would be pursuing T20 deals in January, hence they were not available for selection.
All-rounder Kevin Sinclair, who is yet to receive a cap, was included in the West Indies team for the July Test series against India at home. He has been selected for the Australian Tests. In addition to Sinclair, other players who have been called up include wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach, all-rounders Justin Greaves and Kavem Hodge, fast bowlers Akeem Jordan and Shamar Joseph, and batter Zachary McCaskie.
The West Indies’ left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie has been called up to the Test team after doing well in limited-overs cricket recently. In March, he participated in his final match for the West Indies as a white player against South Africa.
“The absence of some important players has had an impact on the squad. On the other hand, within the past year, we have implemented a highly effective red-ball program that has uncovered enormous talent across the region. The chosen players need to be given the chance to demonstrate their abilities in the test arena after passing each of the available tests. While playing Australia away is always difficult, we have faith in our group, according to CWI Lead Selector Desmond Haynes.
Kraigg Brathwaite’s deputy is going to be seasoned fast bowler Alzarri Joseph. The first Test between the West Indies and Australia will take place in Adelaide starting on January 17 after a four-day match. On January 25, a pink ball will be used for the second Test at the Gabba.
