The second T20I in Dhaka saw Bangladesh’s hitters fall short of the required 96 runs, squandering a fantastic opportunity to defeat India for the first time in five years. Spinner Nahida Akter thought the hitters needed to take responsibility for the loss because they lost five wickets for one run in the final eight balls, causing them to spectacularly collapse and lose by eight runs.
Nahida, who contributed to Bangladesh’s first-half strong bowling effort, was one of those who lost their wicket in Shafali Verma‘s four-wicket last over. The Bangladeshi chase was on track prior to the arrival of captain Nigar Sultana at the crease. But everything changed when she tripped in the penultimate over. According to Nahida, the batters should have increased the scoring in the middle overs as the lower order came under increasing strain.
Nahida said, “We worked hard enough in practice. “Our coach worked with our senior guys, in particular as batters. The top five hitters need to have applied their knowledge. According to Joty Apu [Nigar] in the previous press conference, it is the batters’ responsibility. They need to be more sincere. They will likely return in the following game after reflecting on what happened.
From overs eleven to fifteen, we batted slowly. If we had been able to frequently pick up the singles, it would have been simpler. It put the batters in order and the lineup under stress. Our coach instructed us to bat as though we were chasing 140 runs. We are unable to stop. You have to sweep the ball on that wicket. An awful batting meltdown occurred.
The best bowling effort came from Sultana Khatun, who took three wickets. In addition to Marufa Akter, Nahida, and Rabeya Khan, Fahima Khatun also returned two wickets. The catch by Shorna Akter at long-on to get rid of Yastika Bhatia in the ninth over was the pinnacle of Bangladesh’s fielding display. To complete the catch, Shorna sprinted hard into the opening and dove forward fully. While praising Shorna’s catch, Nahida remarked that they needed to be a more fit team.
The bowlers are always inspired by a great catch, she said. “Shorna made a fantastic catch. We discussed using the field to stop 10 to 20 runs. We intended to take advantage of every opportunity to catch fish. That objective ought to have been met today.
“We are genuinely not as physically fit as India. To improve our fitness, we are working very hard. A foreign trainer is presently with us. In our subsequent camp, we’ll pay close attention to fitness. The board is providing the best services possible. Our game has to improve. Our current position is behind. We are making an effort to recover.
