Sandeep Lamichhane, a leg-spinner for Nepal cricket, was exonerated of all charges in connection with a rape case brought against him by the Kathmandu District Court, in a momentous decision. Lamichhane, who was previously given an eight-year prison sentence, has been declared innocent and is free to continue playing cricket. His selection for the national team for the forthcoming T20 World Cup, in which Nepal will play in the West Indies and the USA, is made possible by this decision.
After Lamichhane was detained by the Kathmandu Police in September of last year on suspicion of raping an 18-year-old girl, the legal drama surrounding him started.
But the latest decision upholds Sandeep Lamichhanes innocence, nullifying the previous decision and absolving him of any financial obligations.
