Star Sandeep Lamichhane, a spinner from Nepal, has not been granted a visa to enter the USA for the T20 World Cup. The 23-year-old was set to fly with Nepal for the massive competition, which is scheduled to start on June 1, after a protracted legal battle against allegations of rape. Most recently, the Supreme Court exonerated her. Notably, he was barred from the game in its entirety after the rape accusations, but the court’s decision permitted him to rejoin.
Prior to this, Chatur Bahadur Chand, the president of Nepal Cricket, said that the board would take all necessary steps to guarantee Sandeep Lamichhane goes with the team to the T20 World Cup.
He disclosed that the team can make changes to its roster up until May 25 and that they will take all required steps to accommodate the spinner in the squad of fifteen players.
“We are pleased for him since the law has freed him. The higher court released him today after the lesser courts had sentenced him to prison. The suspension has also been lifted, and we still have until the 25th to add him to the World Cup roster, according to Chand.
On May 22, however, Sandeep Lamichhane tweeted and made it known that he had not yet received a visa for travel to the United States. The cricket player stated that he was refused a visa to compete in the Caribbean Premier League in 2019 and that this incident was comparable. He also apologized to all of Nepal Cricket’s supporters in the interim.
“And the @USEmbassyNepal did it again what they did back in 2019, they denied my Visa for the T-20 World Cup happening in USA and West Indies. Unfortunate. I am sorry to all the well wishers of Nepal Cricket,” Sandeep Lamichhane wrote on his X profile.
