This week marked the debut of Samit Dravid, the son of great batter and former Indian coach Rahul Dravid, for the senior men in the Maharaja T20 Trophy 2024.
The young player, who has scored seven runs in each of the first two innings for Mysuru Warriors, may not have had much of an impact, but his shot against Bengaluru Blasters pacer Gneshwar Naveen in Match 4 sparked intense reactions and comparisons to his father, Rahul Dravid, on social media.

With the Warriors leading 59/3 after Samit batted one ball off of five deliveries, he exhibited remarkable steadiness as he moved his weight to the backfoot and launched a pull over the deep midwicket fence, sending the ball deep into the yellow and red-colored M. Chinnaswamy Stadium stands in Bengaluru.
Samit was unable to sustain his momentum, though, as he was caught off guard on the very next delivery and fell for a run-a-ball seven. Internet users could not help but draw comparisons between Samit’s free-flowing bat swing and that of his instructor and father.

Samit is a young, talented all-round player who gained notice for his efforts in the Cooch Behar Trophy 2023–24. He was a middle-order batsman who made a substantial contribution to Karnataka’s championship campaign, scoring 362 runs at an astounding average of 36.20 in eight games.
