At the upcoming mini-auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL), which will take place on Friday in Kochi, there will be ten teams competing for a limited pool of cricketers. Some of the players in this pool include Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, and Mayank Agarwal, so intense bidding is expected to be the order of the day.
The pool of available players for the auction has been reduced to 405, and each team is allowed to fill a maximum of 87 places, including 30 slots for players from overseas. Chris Morris, a former all-rounder for South Africa, has emerged as the player who has benefited the most from the mini IPL auction to this far.
When the Rajasthan Royals paid him a total of Rs 16.25 crore for his services in 2021, he established a new record as the most expensive player in the annals of auction history.
Morris is currently enjoying his retirement to the fullest.
It is anticipated that all-rounder Sam Curran, who was selected as the Player of the 2022 T20 World Cup, will be the subject of strong competition and wind up with a deal for one million dollars.
Sam Curran is still young at 24, so clubs will view signing him as an investment for the long term. Before he moved to Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings made him an IPL millionaire. Chennai Super Kings, who would be eager to buy him back, made him the move.
Curran, who was sidelined for the 2022 season due to a back issue and is now fully recovered, has decided to set his base price at Rs 2 crore.
The all-rounders are included in the second round of players that will be put up for auction. Kochi, rather of the more typical location of Bengaluru, will serve as the site of the auction. This event will be closely watched.
Other members of Curran’s English team, like as Test skipper Stokes and Harry Brook, are also quite certain to receive substantial wage increases.
Stokes is a super star of the game and delivers in the most difficult of circumstances, whilst Brook created a name for himself in the Test format with three centuries against Pakistan, after already demonstrating his quality in the shorter-formats of the game.
Both Stokes and Brook have established their starting prices as Rs 2 crore and Rs 1.5 crore, respectively.
Cameron Green, an all-rounder for Australia, will also be paying close attention to what is going on. After he was given the opportunity to open for Australia in India earlier this year, he has not looked back in the shortest format. He is currently leading Australia to victory.
Many people were taken aback by the fact that he was not initially selected for the World Cup squad; but, after Josh Inglis sustained an injury, he was subsequently included.
Kane Williamson, the captain of New Zealand, will be another prominent player, and his starting price would be 2 crore rupees. Along with fellow West Indian Nicholas Pooran, Sunrisers Hyderabad decided to release both of them.
Although his strike rate in Twenty20 matches has been called into question, Williamson is still a very good pick for a captain in the event that a franchise is looking for potential candidates.
Pooran, who stepped down as captain of the West Indies after their early elimination from the T20 World Cup, has not been in the best of sorts as of late but is still anticipated to secure a fair deal for himself.
Joe Root, who formerly captained England in test matches, has also expressed interest in the position.
In addition, the Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza, who has been one of the best Twenty20 players over the course of the past year, is likely to garner a high premium.
