In addition to serving as a panelist at two ICC Women’s Cricket World Cups and the Women’s T20 World Cup 2018, Saikat, 47, was in charge of five matches at the Men’s Cricket World Cup last year.
When Shahid Saikat officiates the opening match between the USA and Canada, he will become the first umpire from Bangladesh to preside at the T20 World Cup.
Richard Illingworth, who officiated the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Final between Australia and India last year and earned the David Shepherd Trophy for ICC Umpire of the Year for a third time in 2023, will be in the middle on opening night alongside the trailblazing official.
In Dallas, the match referee will be Richie Richardson, while the TV umpire will be Sam Nogajski and the fourth umpire will be Langton Rusere.
In June, Nogajski will be one of five umpires making their senior men’s tournament debuts. Rashid Riaz will make his debut in the tournament’s second match, which will take place in Guyana between Papua New Guinea and the West Indies. A significant milestone will also be reached by match referee Andy Pycroft, who will officiate his 150th Twenty20 International.
Later that day, in Barbados, Jayaraman Madanagopal will make his debut in a head-to-head match between Namibia and Oman.
The USA and Pakistan match will be the first of Allahudien Paleker’s four on-field group games, while Asif Yaqoob, making his debut, will team up with Nitin Menon for England’s match against Scotland.
On June 9, India and Pakistan will play in the highly anticipated Group A match. Illingworth and Rodney Tucker will officiate.
The appointments for the knockout stage will be revealed at a later time. Kumar Dharmasena, Chris Gaffaney, Richard Kettleborough, and Joel Wilson are among the other seasoned officials making a comeback for more World Cup action.
