India’s participation in the ODI World Cup in 2019 has already begun, despite the country’s dissatisfaction with their performance in the T20 World Cup 2022. Although they were only able to play one of the three matches against New Zealand, the team will now regroup in preparation for the one-day international series against Bangladesh, which will begin on December 4th. There are still some selection problems that need to be answered, particularly in reference to the new players that have been added to the squad, as well as the position of KL Rahul, who is typically an opener but has been batting in the middle of the order in recent ODIs. Saba Karim gave his thoughts on the matter in an interview he gave to NDTV as part of a limited media interaction that took place before the beginning of the series.
When asked about the newcomers such as Rajat Patidar and Rahul Tripathi, Saba Karim responded that young people like them need to be supported and encouraged.
When asked about putting together a squad for the ODI World Cup in 2023, Saba responded by saying, “At this moment, I am not looking too far.” “These two bring a lot of excitement to the table. I have mentioned the necessity of reorganising the way in which we play white-ball cricket.
It is not a bad idea to put a few younger people through their paces and see if they are capable of fitting into that kind of a mould or not. I believe that the conditions are favourable for players of this calibre to enter the system at this moment.
They have performed admirably in both the Indian Premier League and in white-ball cricket played on the domestic level. These kinds of folks deserve to have their spirits lifted.”
“To begin, we will have to wait for the members of the selection committee to arrive. Before the start of the World Cup, the members of the selection committee, along with the management of the team, need to collaborate on formulating a game plan for the upcoming competition “he added.
When asked about the optimal batting position for KL Rahul in the 50-over format, Saba Karim responded by stating that he saw the Karnataka native more as an opening alternative to Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma than as a middle-order player in the current iteration of the game.
“I see him more as an opening replacement option for Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan than anything else. As India’s opening batsman, he has been productive for the team. He is such a refined athlete to watch. It’s really only a matter of time before he gets back into shape.
However, I have no idea what number he will bat at in the game. Do we bat him in the middle of the order if we can’t use him as an opener? Would it be possible for us to give him a long rope there? There are a lot of other potential candidates still in the running.
That’s the kind of ambiguity I see in the current 15-person jury pool right now. The administration of the team and the captain need to work together to find a solution to this problem as quickly as they possibly can “he offered his opinion.
