On July 25 at Pallekele, Ryan ten Doeschate, the new assistant coach for India, joined the group. Arriving in Sri Lanka on July 23, the team captained by Suryakumar Yadav has already begun training for the three-match Twenty20 International series, which is scheduled to start on July 27. The new coaching team was said to include Gautam Gambhir, Abhishek Nayar, T Dilip, and Sairaj Bahutule.
Currently, Bahutule is a temporary member of the team, and Morne Morkel is anticipated to take his place. In Pretoria to tend to his ailing father, the former South Africa international is expected to rejoin the national team prior to the series against Bangladesh.
Ryan ten Doeschate, a very experienced member of the team who was recommended for the position by Gambhir, joined the squad in the interim.
He and Nayar have been appointed assistant coaches because Gambhir wanted them to be free to work with each player on their own and without regard to any specific role. Nayar and Ten Doeschate, who both contributed significantly to the Kolkata Knight Riders’ 2024 IPL victory, intend to help the Indian squad achieve similar success.
In the meantime, Suryakumar Yadav’s selection as the T20I team’s captain was recently justified by the top selector. The selection committee ultimately decided on Suryakumar since Hardik Pandya, the other favourite, is prone to injuries. The Mumbai-born cricketer has experience playing for Gambhir; during his time with KKR, the latter named Suryakumar vice captain.

Beginning on August 2, India will play a three-match ODI series after the T20I series. India hopes to assemble a formidable team for the next Champions Trophy 2025, and veterans Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul will be joining the team. The head coach wants to give Jasprit Bumrah a rest, especially because he was granted a break from the series as selectors and has 10 Test matches left in the Indian team’s season schedule.
