Fans have already seen some thrilling action as the Indian Premier League (IPL) of 2024 approaches its halfway point. For the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the legendary MS Dhoni has shown up to play in his 17th IPL season. He has been producing some excellent performances both at bat and with the gloves thus far.
There were doubts over Dhoni’s ability to play in the IPL in 2024 following his knee surgery last year. To achieve full fitness and return to the field for what is anticipated to be his final season as a professional cricket player, he nevertheless displayed incredible courage and perseverance. The 42-year-old hasn’t, however, shown any signs of slowing down, as he has made some excellent cameos for CSK lower down the order and has also turned back time with his unparalleled abilities behind the wickets. Following such steady play, supporters have begun to question whether the former captain of India will be able to participate in the IPL beyond 2024.
During a commentary gig, Dhoni’s former teammates from India, RP Singh and Suresh Raina, were questioned if they thought that IPL 2024 would be the famous wicketkeeper-batter’s final game.
“It doesn’t seem like this will be his last season,” RP Singh, who captained India to victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup, stated while providing commentary for JioCinema.

After this, Singh would go to Raina and ask him what he thought about the matter. In agreement with the former left-arm bowler, the southpaw, who was a key member of India’s 2011 ODI World Cup-winning team, said in a single word that Dhoni will participate in the IPL the following year.
Raina, who played for the Men in Yellow for many years under Dhoni, responded, “Khelenge (will play).”
MS Dhoni’s outstanding IPL 2024 performances to CSK
Ruturaj Gaikwad took over as CSK captain before the start of the season, following the talismanic cricketer. While he is mostly a wicketkeeper-batter, he is occasionally observed coaching the young skipper on the field.
Dhoni has amassed 59 runs at a strike rate of 236 in just 25 balls over four innings in the 2024 Indian Premier League. Thus far, he has completed four fours and six sixes. Dhoni hasn’t been out of the competition yet. With four victories and two defeats from their six games, Chennai is ranked third on the points table. On April 19, Friday, they take on the Lucknow Super Giants.
