The New Zealand women’s cricket team has announced a 15-member squad for their impending white-ball tour of Sri Lanka beginning on June 27. Beginning on July 8, the two teams will compete in three one-day internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 internationals (T20Is).
The roster announcement features the return of several talented athletes. Rosemary Mair, a 24-year-old pacer, has made a return to the team. She last played for the White Ferns against England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
In addition, the announcement signifies the return of 19-year-old wicketkeeper Izzy Gaze. She did not participate in this year’s T20 World Cup in South Africa, but her return to the squad would certainly bolster her morale moving forward.
We are delighted to see Rosemary and Izzy return. Ben Sawyer
In addition, New Zealand women’s head coach Ben Sawyer greeted both Gaze and Mary’s return to the squad. The entire crew is excited to see how they adjust to their return, according to him.
Stuff.co.nz quoted Ben Sawyer as saying, “We’re excited to have Rosemary Mair and Izzy back. Both players have worked hard on their respective games since their last international tours, and we’re looking forward to seeing how they handle the challenges that this tour will bring.”
He added, “They each bring their own unique strengths to the group, and we hope that they will contribute to what we hope will be a successful tour.”
During the tour, Sophie Devine will command the team, which will also include Melie Kerr, Lea Tahuhu, Maddy Green, and numerous other seasoned players. With Sri Lanka hosting the series, it will be intriguing to see how New Zealand performs in subcontinental conditions, and Sawyer expressed the same sentiment.
This is the first time nearly the entire squad will have played in Sri Lanka, so it’s a great chance for our players to develop their game in challenging subcontinental conditions, according to Ben Sawyer.
