However, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who stated that he is confident Rohit Sharma will lead India to victory, has put an end to the rumors regarding India’s captaincy in the T20 extravaganza. At the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, which was formerly known as the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, the speaker commended India for their outstanding ODI World Cup 2023 campaign and gave them my full support to win the T20 World Cup in 2024.
With the massive event scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the USA starting on June 1, the T20 World Cup 2024 is just over two months away. The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has been preparing to choose a young team for the tournament; therefore, there have been a lot of discussions in the run-up to it regarding India’s roster and captain.
“People had been waiting for me to talk about the 2023 ODI World Cup. We might have lost the ODI World Cup final in 2023. But by winning ten straight games, we won people over there. During the naming ceremony of Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot
Jay Shah declared, “I am confident that India will win the 2024 T20I World Cup under Rohit Sharma.”

Remarkably, following India’s crushing defeat by ten wickets against England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final, neither Virat Kohli nor Rohit Sharma have participated in a T20I match. From December 2023 until the end of the World Cup, the Men in Blue played 25 Twenty20 internationals; however, neither Rohit nor Kohli appeared in a match.
During the AFG series, Rohit Sharma became the first player to score five hundred in a Twenty20 international.
However, the two were summoned back to the team prior to India’s final Twenty20 International Series against Afghanistan before the World Cup. During the first two matches of the series, the Indian was dismissed twice in a row, so his comeback didn’t start off well. But in the last Twenty20 International in Bengaluru, he made a spectacular return, becoming the first player to achieve five hundred in the format with a stunning innings of 121* (69).
However, Kohli was absent from the first T20I match for personal reasons and only made a cameo appearance for 29 (16) in the second match. But in the series’ last Twenty20 International, he was dismissed for no reason at all. The rivalry among the young athletes to secure the remaining spots for the huge event will be fierce now that it is nearly certain that the two veterans will board the plane and travel to the USA and the West Indies.
