When Purnima, Rohit Sharma’s mother, saw her son for the first time since India won the T20 World Cup in Barbados, she was overcome with happiness. In a touching scene, Rohit’s mother was seen giving the Indian captain a hug and kissing his face following Thursday, July 4, Mumbai’s victory celebration.
After 17 years, India won their second T20 World Cup after defeating South Africa by seven runs in the championship match. For three days, Rohit and his team were stuck in the West Indies due to Hurricane Beryl. Thousands gathered at the airport to greet the world champions, Team India, as they arrived in Delhi to a boisterous reception.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a special breakfast meeting for the team at his residence prior to their journey to Mumbai for an open bus triumph parade. Later, the legendary Wankhede Stadium provided assistance to Rohit, Virat Kohli, and the rest of the team.
At the momentous occasion in Mumbai, Purnima, Rohit’s mother, was also present and was overcome with emotion. On social media, a video of her sharing happiness and love has gone viral.

Purnima chose to forego her doctor’s appointment because she wasn’t feeling well, but she still wanted to attend the event, she told The Indian Express.
“I never imagined that today would come.” Despite having a doctor’s appointment and feeling under the weather today, I came because I wanted to see this day.
“I am unable to convey how happy I am. Take a look at the applause. This is a whole new atmosphere to me. He deserves all of the attention he is receiving due of his diligence and hard work. Today, I’m the happiest mommy ever,” she continued.
Rohit’s mother earlier used social media to share her feelings following India’s victory as her son led the team to a historic success that ended an 11-year drought for the ICC trophy. During the celebrations at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, a photo of Rohit with his daughter Samaira perched on his shoulder and posing with Kohli went viral.
