Since the ODI World Cup 2023 concluded, there has been much discussion about the future of Indian captain Rohit Sharma and ace batsman Virat Kohli in Twenty20 Internationals. There is a lot of talk over whether the two will play in the T20 World Cup 2024, which is only six months away, or if the team management will put their faith in the new players to break India’s ICC trophy drought of ten years.
Rohit Sharma reportedly discussed his T20I future during a recent meeting with the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) in Delhi, where they also discussed India’s performance at the 2023 ODI World Cup and chose the squad for the South Africa tour. After connecting via Zoom from London, Rohit apparently asked the selectors whether they wanted him to play in the USA and the West Indies in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

A report in Dainik Jagran claims that selectors, head coach Rahul Dravid, secretary Jay Shah, vice president Rajeev Shukla, and treasurer Ashish Shelar, all of whom were present at the meeting, unanimously agreed that Rohit is the best person to captain India in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
They even desired that the captain assume leadership of the Twenty20 international team, starting with the South Africa tour. After a demanding World Cup campaign, he did, however, request a break from the white-ball portion of the tour and will now lead the team in a two-match Test series.
The BCCI decided to play Rohit in the Twenty20 league despite doubts over Hardik Pandya’s health. Is not
It is noteworthy that Rohit and Kohli have not participated in a Twenty20 international match since India’s devastating ten-wicket defeat to England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinal. All-arounder Hardik Pandya has been captaining the team ever since his absence. But Pandya’s availability for the T20 World Cup 2024 is in doubt due to his ankle injury sustained in the ODI World Cup 2023, which led the selectors to give Rohit the captaincy.
BCCI establishes an 18-week high-performance regimen for Hardik Pandya’s recuperation.
According to reports, Pandya will get ready for the World Cup using a distinctive 18-week program that the BCCI and the NCA created. India would be keen to confirm their playing lineup for the mega event in the next two series since they only have six T20Is left before the T20 extravaganza.
