The first-ever Delhi Premier League (DPL) opener is scheduled to feature star Indian batsman and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. The much-awaited franchise competition is set to get underway on Saturday, August 17.
The Times of India reported on Thursday, August 15, that 26-year-old Pant would play in the opening match on August 17 at Arun Jaitley Stadium between his club, Purani Delhi 6, and the Ayush Badoni-led South Delhi Superstarz.
In an effort to support this project, which is anticipated to give young people in Delhi a fantastic platform, Rishabh Pant has consented to play in the DPLT20’s opening game.
He acknowledges Delhi Cricket’s contribution to his career. But, considering the length of the upcoming Test season, it’s critical that he look after himself. His top priority is getting in the best possible form to represent the nation.
He will resume red-ball training following the DPL season opener and begin getting ready for the long-format season, which begins with the Duleep Trophy in the first week of September. A source close to Pant informed TOI that the Purani Delhi 6 administration and the DDCA respect Rishabh’s commitments and are grateful for his gesture.
40 games in all, 33 in the men’s division and 7 in the women’s, will be played in the DPL 2024. The men’s competition features the following six teams: East Delhi Riders, Central Delhi Kings, North Delhi Strikers, West Delhi Lions, and Purani Delhi 6. The summit match will take place on September 8 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, where all of the games will be played.

Pant will compete in the Duleep Trophy starting on September 5 with the Abhimanyu Easwaran-led India B team, following his DPL stint.
