Day 3 of the current first Test between India and New Zealand began at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The hosts will be hoping for a better performance the next day after a wild second day. However, the absence of wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has presented a significant obstacle for team India since the game began.
When the ball struck Rishabh Pant right knee on the second day of the match, he instantly collapsed in agony.
Dhruv Jurel replaced the star wicketkeeper after the physio entered the field and the star batsman staggered off.
On the third day of the clash, it appears that everything will be the same. Jurel has substituted the star player for the third day after the BCCI confirmed that the Indian side will be playing without Pant’s wicketkeeping services. As of yet, the board has not made it clear if he will bat if necessary. His progress is now being monitored by the medical staff, and more information is anticipated.
UPDATE: Mr Rishabh Pant will not keep wickets on Day 3.
The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress.

It’s a safety precaution: Rohit Sharma,
Following the conclusion of the second day of play, India captain Rohit Sharma made a significant announcement regarding Pant’s condition. It’s important to note that Pant had surgery on his right knee following his automobile accident in December 2022, which prevented him from playing for more than a year, and the captain disclosed that he had swelling in that knee.
Unfortunately, Rishabh’s kneecap—the same leg on which he has had surgery—was struck by the ball directly. He has some edema on it as a result. Since it is delicate right now, this is a preventative action. It was the reason he went inside. “Hopefully, he can get better,” Rohit said during the news conference following Stumps on Day 2.

With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 quickly coming, it appears that team India does not want to take the chance of making Pant’s injury worse. As a result, they will want Pant to be at the peak of his game.
