Former India hitter Robin Uthappa believes that going forward in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), Rishabh Pant should bat higher up the order.
The young wicketkeeper who bats has not been very impressive in the middle order, and he has also had trouble breaking into the starting eleven on multiple occasions.
Pant participated in two matches during the Twenty20 World Cup but was not given the opportunity to showcase his talents. Uthappa stated that Pant should either open the batting order for the Indian side or bat at number 3 for the squad based on Pant’s good performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“Rishabh Pant should be batting in the top three in my opinion, taking in mind the conditions that would be there at the next Twenty20 World Cup, which will take place in two years.
You should give Dinesh Karthik the opportunity to become a match-winner in that position because his best performances have come when he has opened or when he has batted at No. 3. If you look at his IPL statistics, his best performances have occurred when he has batted at No. 3.
You can prepare players such as Sanju Samson, Rahul Tripathi, and Deepak Hooda for the finisher’s role. Umran Malik is a bowler who can absolutely play, while Sanju Samson and Rahul Tripathi are both good runners “Uthappa stated on Sportskeeda.
On Tuesday, the Delhi Capitals decided to keep Pant on their roster for the 2019 season of the Indian Premier League. Pant will continue to serve as the team’s captain throughout this time.
Now that he has been given the green light, the 25-year-old will participate in the white-ball series against New Zealand.
Starting on Friday in Wellington, India will play the first of three Twenty20 Internationals and the same number of One-Day Internationals.
Pant has been given the responsibility of serving as the tour’s chosen vice captain for the upcoming trip to Australia.
