During the Duleep Trophy 2024, teammates Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav of India and the Delhi Capitals, representing India B and India A, shared a hilarious encounter over the stump mic.
As India A needed to win by 131 runs with just three wickets remaining and Kuldeep being the only identifiable bowler who had shown batting prowess, the wrist-spinner stroked a ball from Sai Kishore to the empty midwicket fence. A furious exchange between the wicketkeeper and the spinner delayed the very next delivery, which was the last ball of the over.
In order to safeguard Akash Deep from the bowlers of India B, who were eager to wrap things up quickly, Pant advised the fielders on and outside the thirty-yard circle to take a few more steps to inhibit the single that he thought Kuldeep would take. In response to Pant’s assertion, Kuldeep implied that it wasn’t necessary to take the pitch by saying he wouldn’t take a single. Quickly following suit, Pant asked Kuldeep to make a vow to his mother that he would not accept the single.

“Sab upar rehna single ke liye saare (everyone come up close to prevent the single from being taken),” notified Pant.
“Mai nahi lunga (I refuse to accept the single),” Kuldeep answered.
“Kha le maa kasam nahi lega (swear on your mother that you won’t take it),” responded Pant.
While Pant and Kuldeep have been teammates at DC, the former has made eight wickets off the latter’s bowling in the 24 games he has played as a wicketkeeper.
