On Wednesday, August 14, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the four Duleep Trophy lineups. All of the well-known cricket players, excluding Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli, will be competing in the competition, including Ravind7ra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav. Nevertheless, Shubman Gill, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shreyas Iyer have been handed the baton and none of these veteran cricket players have been named captains.
Aakash Chopra, a former cricket player, expressed special surprise that Pant was not selected as one of the captains. Chopra says that it’s okay that he will be playing under Easwaran, but he had anticipated that Pant, who is 26 years old, would be included in India’s captaincy group considering his impact and influence in red-ball cricket.
“A captain is not Rishabh Pant. He’s been called up to the Abhimanyu Easwaran team.
It’s wonderful that he is playing under the captaincy of Abhimanyu Easwaran. But is Rishabh Pant not even a contender to lead the Test team? In a video that was posted on his YouTube account, Chopra stated, “I am a bit startled.
“I strongly disagree with this because Rishabh Pant’s best-known avatar is that of a Test cricket player. In Test match history, he is the only wicketkeeper from India to have scored hundreds in South Africa, England, and Australia. It is important to note that while Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, and even Abhimanyu Easwaran are captains, Pant is not, and he continued.
Notably, Pant will participate in his debut red-ball game after sustaining numerous injuries in a December 2022 vehicle accident. He is part of the plan for the forthcoming Bangladesh Test, and the Duleep Trophy is the ideal platform for him to demonstrate his abilities and overtake KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel in the race.
