So far, the Durban’s Super Giants’ SA20 2024 campaign is doing quite well.
They had three straight victories to start, but two straight defeats sapped their confidence. But Keshav Maharaj and company have recovered, winning two straight games, the most recent one coming on Friday, January 26 at Boland Park in Paarl against the Paarl Royals.
Against the prevalent T20 cricket practice of chasing, Maharaj chose to bat first after winning the toss. The opposition lost two wickets for 24 runs in the first four overs, so they weren’t off to a good start. But Quinton de Kock, who batted at No. 4, and JJ Smuts steadied the ship with an incredible 118 runs off 82 balls.
Heinrich Klaasen came out to the middle and played a brilliant innings after Smuts was removed for a well-balanced fifty-nine ball innings. With only nine balls to his name, Heinrich Klaasen scored 30 runs with two fours and three sixes. In contrast, Quinton de Kock amassed 83 off 51 balls without losing and struck five fours and as many sixes.
Struggling to raise the stakes, the Royals’ hitters fell short of their difficult 191-run target. The only batter who attempted to make an innings was Jos Buttler, who was removed by Maharaj after being caught for 45 off 36 balls by Wiaan Mulder.
Marcus Stoinis was the best player with a three-for as David Miller’s team was bowled out for 133. Reece Topley and Maharaj each claimed two wickets, while Smuts, Noor Ahmad, and Naveen-ul-Haq each contributed one wicket.
Quinton de Kock outstanding innings earned him the title of Player of the Match. With 23 points from seven games, the Super Giants are now atop the standings after their decisive 57-run victory.
The following is how ‘X’ users felt about the unfair SA20 2024 match:

@paarlroyals are the best team this season in the SA20.
They are balanced. Their fielding and bowling is on point with multiple attacks. Their battling line up is consistent. 👌#SA20 #PRvDSG
