Even though it was a “unique sensation” to make his first hundred in a Test, young Shubman Gill acknowledged that it took a long time (12 Tests) to reach the coveted milestone.
His first hundred in a Test was scored by Gill on Friday during India’s second innings in the first test match against Bangladesh. Gill hit 110 runs off 152 balls to reach the milestone.
Gill, who was competing in his 12th Test, and Chesteshwar Pujara (102 not out off 130), drove India to a score of 258 for 2 declared, giving Bangladesh an extremely difficult victory goal of 513.
“To be perfectly honest, I felt that the first Test century took an awfully long time to arrive for me. Today was all about resolving the challenging problem as quickly and painlessly as possible “After the conclusion of the day’s play, Gill reported to announcers from “Sony Liv.”
“(The century) Holds a significant amount of meaning for me, as well as for my family and the friends who have always been there for me. Special occasion for every player; reaching my first century on this ground is extremely meaningful to me “Gill made the statement after he had successfully accomplished the achievement in his 22nd test innings.
During his entertaining knock, Gill hit 10 fours and three sixes in addition to his boundaries.
When asked if he was anxious about reaching the age of 90, he responded: “There was not a single idea that was unique (while batting in the 90s). Playing the game in accordance with the field conditions and then being able to score runs was the goal for me.
Gill explained that taking an offensive stance was simply second nature. He emphasised the need of maintaining a steady pace throughout the innings. “It was quite natural for me to do so (to hit a couple of boundaries and get to the milestone).
There was a space between third man and point when the bowler came around the wicket. I hadn’t been playing over there for the entirety of those innings.
“In addition, once the field was ready, I checked out the field players. When lunch time came, I was somewhere around 13 years old. It’s important to have a steady pace throughout the innings; by the time I’d faced 100 balls, I was somewhere around 70. As a batter, you needed to know when to launch an attack, “the right-hander, who is 23 years old, remarked.
