Ravichandran Ashwin, an off-spinner, was included in India’s Twenty20 International team for the five-match series that is currently being played against West Indies. He has not let us down in any way, as he has been able to maintain his economy and avoid leaking runs. In the middle portion of the match, he has been successful in limiting the flow of runs while also claiming important wickets. Now, former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar has commented on how Ashwin has learned the art of being frugal in the shortest format of the game. He said that Ashwin has perfected the art of being economical in the shortest format of the game.
“Who are his current rivals in the industry? You have Chahal, who, based on his recent performance, is a lock to play spinner. You also have Axar Patel and Jadeja, both of whom are capable of bowling at least a little bit. During the last match, Hooda was responsible for one of the wickets, and then there is Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin. In my opinion, choosing Ashwin to accompany us on this tour was a really good choice. Ashwin has begun to make a significant impact in the Indian Twenty20 league over the course of the past couple of years. When Ashwin is with someone like Chahal, he’s one of my favourite players to watch. Therefore, the responsibility for turning the tide does not fall on Ashwin’s shoulders “During the daily episode of the sports news programme titled “SPORTS OVER THE TOP” on SPORTS18, Manjrekar made the following statement.
“You should realise that the responsibility of the spin bowler in the middle overs of a Twenty20 match is to collect wickets, much like Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj do for South Africa. As a Twenty20 spinner, Ashwin was lacking in this particular area of his game. He put a lot of emphasis on the economy, but when you have someone like Chahal, or if there’s another wicket-taking wrist spinner, then Ashwin has become a great compliment. Ashwin has mastered the art of being economical in Twenty20 cricket, and Chahal and the other wrist spinners are great compliments to Ashwin. In the first Twenty20 match, taking a few of wickets was a good sign, but that’s what you can expect from Ashwin, as he will serve as a complement to the other key spinner in the team who will take wickets “he continued.
Manjrekar also discussed the possibility that Kuldeep Yadav & Yuzvendra Chahal might not be a successful batting combination in the shortest version of the game.
“I seriously doubt that India will ever use a combination like that in their military. At least in Twenty20 cricket, where two spinners, Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, may play together as a unit. Either Axar Patel or Chahal will get the nod, or Ashwin or Chahal will get the nod, or, if Chahal is unable to play due to injury, they may just play Kuldeep Yadav as a gamble in one of the games. I don’t see Chahal and Kuldeep getting back together, but if it were 50 overs cricket, I could see it happening “said Manjrekar.
During the current series, Ashwin has participated in all three Twenty20 Internationals and has taken three wickets. In addition, he has provided valuable contributions with the bat, even if he bats down in the order.
