Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will carry India to victory in the first test: Harbhajan Singh

Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has stated that Team India should trust on spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to win the first Test at Nagpur in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 comfortably.

India are the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy champions after winning the four-match series 2-1 in 2020-21. Even back then, after losing the first Test at Adelaide Oval, India staged a comeback. Since 2004 when they last won a series in India, Australia’s Test cricket records in India have been mediocre.

“I believe Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will carry India to victory in the first test: Harbhajan Singh will take the most wickets, with Jadeja contributing as well. These two spinners will complete the task. As they have a large number of left-handed batsmen, Ashwin will likely begin with the new ball. I believe India’s spinners will win tomorrow’s match,” the 42-year-old declared in a video posted to his YouTube page.

The former spinner was immensely impressed by the Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will carry India to victory in the first test: Harbhajan Singh-Jadeja pair on Day 1 of the inaugural Test, and he added that with such a confident start to the series, particularly by this duo, it would be their responsibility to carry India to victory in the opening Test. The spin twins shared 8 wickets in the first innings, with Jadeja claiming an outstanding five.

Harbhajan continued by reserving special admiration for the all-around player Ravindra Jadeja. In the opening Test, the 34-year-old displayed his all-around abilities to perfection. According to Harbhajan, Jadeja’s performance provided a model for how to play Test cricket.

“Five wickets were taken by him with the ball. However, the innings he played was outstanding. It was not customary for Jadeja to enter and continue hitting. He demonstrated defence, and his step over was also excellent. He demonstrated how Test cricket is played,” he concluded.
