After the T20 World Cup 2024 final versus South Africa at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, head coach Rahul Dravid of India, who has led the Men in Blue to significant victories in ICC competitions, is expected to step down. The Indians under Dravid advanced to the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinals, and they have now made three final appearances in the 2023 World Test Championship, 2023 ODI World Cup, and 2024 T20 World Cup.
India was denied triumph at every ICC event under Dravid’s leadership, and the internet community rose up in a big way to lift the coveted silverware and pay respect to the Indore-born player for his outstanding and committed efforts to change the face of Indian cricket.
The young Karnataka man was made aware of the #DoItForDravid initiative following India’s victory over England in the semi-finals in Guyana. In keeping with his character, he minimised his contribution to the overall situation.
“It completely goes against my values and who I am as a person.” I’m not really a fan of the “Do it for somebody” mentality. That saying, “I want to climb Mount Everest because it’s there,” is one of my favourite quotes. It describes someone asking another person, “Why do you want to climb Mount Everest?” Why does winning this World Cup appeal to us? In a Star Sports video featuring Dravid interacting with Jatin Sapru, he stated, “Because it exists.”
It’s just there to win [the World Cup], nothing more, nothing less. I don’t want to talk about it or have a conversation about it because all I want to do is play good cricket, and doing it for someone else goes completely against my own values. I would be grateful if that campaign could be taken down, Dravid said.

He declines it in an elegant way: Ravichandran Ashwin
Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has also spoken up to say that he agrees with Dravid’s criticism of certain stories. Ashwin commended the legend for rejecting stories about a single player in a team sport, highlighting the negative effects these stories have on the chemistry within a team. He praised the head coach for handling it with grace and urged the team to compete as a cohesive one in the championship game.
The worst thing that can happen to a positive team atmosphere in a team sport is stories about building someone up. I’ve known this man for a long time, and even if he declines the story offer elegantly. “Let’s fight again,” Ashwin cited X as saying.
