It looks like team India will soon name Gautam Gambhir as their new head coach. Prior to the series against Sri Lanka, he would join the team later in the month and take Rahul Dravid’s place at the top of the team. The southpaw, according the reports, has already recorded a video at Eden Gardens bidding farewell to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) supporters and is nearing completion of all necessary requirements before BCCI makes him official.
Remarkably, KKR has asked Dravid to take over as mentor for Gambhir in the IPL 2025. Kolkata sought to take advantage of the former cricket player’s open door to return to the IPL after his time as India’s head coach ended. Given Dravid’s resume, he appears to be one of the candidates for the role of mentor that Chandrakant Pandit would have when Gambhir left.
Rahul Dravid has not yet responded to a report in News18 Bangla that confirmed the development.
Things are still very early on; it hasn’t even been a week since his return to India. In light of the 51-year-old’s decision to step away from the game and spend more time with his family, the procedure—assuming Dravid is even interested—may take many months to finish.
Abhishek Nayar may join the India squad as a support member, according to a report in the local Bengali daily Aajkaal. With the young KKR players, Gambhir has done an incredible job and has a close relationship with the Mumbai cricketer. Gambhir wishes to participate for the Indian squad as well, but since WV Raman is also competing, the agreement might not go through.
In order to verify Gambhir’s support crew, BCCI will shortly be sending out applications. In the next few days, a lot is anticipated to surface because the officials want this procedure to be finished as fast as possible.
