On Sunday, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced that fast bowler Duanne Olivier will not be participating in the three-match Test series against England, which is scheduled to begin on August 17. With a torn right hip flexor muscle of grade 2, he is out. An injury suffered by Olivier during the four-day tour match against the England Lions at Canterbury’s The Spitfire Ground St. Lawrence had caused him to miss time with the team.
Olivier’s replacement for the upcoming season is still unknown. The series will begin with a Test Match at Lord’s Cricket Ground, with subsequent matches to be played at Old Trafford and The Oval.
According to a press release from Cricket South Africa (CSA), “Duanne presented with substantial discomfort with his right hip flexor muscle towards the close of play on day three of the four-day tour match.” Dr. Hashendra Ramjee is the team physician for the Proteas. A referral to MRI followed his clinical evaluation, and the scan revealed a grade 2 tear in his right pectineus muscle.”
