Team India lost to Bangladesh in their final Super Four stage matchup on Friday, September 15, marking their first defeat of the 2017 Asia Cup. India attempted to chase down a 266-run mark but just missed it, losing the match by six runs. One may argue that India’s defeat against Bangladesh was caused by its poor batting displays during the run chase. One particular performance, though, during the second innings, stood out. India was able to stay in the game and get within striking distance of a victory thanks to the performance of ace opener Shubman Gill.
Shubman Gill produced a fantastic knock for the Indian squad, scoring 121 runs in 133 deliveries while spending a lot of time at the bowling crease.
He ultimately came up short, and India dropped the match. Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, did not hold back when praising Gill for his heroic performance after the team’s defeat. He claimed that Gill can support his pitching and knows how to time innings well.
“It was fantastic. He is confident in his strategy, and he is aware of how to pace and play the game. He has a definite goal in mind for the team and is really in the moment. Just take a look at his recent and past performance. It was simply amazing. Rohit Sharma was reported by India Today as stating, “Solid against the new ball, works incredibly hard and there are no optional practises either.
In the Asia Cup final, India will play Sri Lanka.
It is important to note that India would not suffer any punishment if they lost to Bangladesh. By defeating Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super Four stage earlier, the team has already qualified for the Asia Cup 2023 final.
On Sunday, September 17, the tournament’s championship will take place at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. India will compete against Sri Lanka in the championship game, and the team is hoping for a repeat performance.
