PM Modi recalls doctors’ chat during star batter’s accident: ‘I told them if Pant needs treatment outside India’

Since he returned to the pitch on December 30, 2022, following a terrifying vehicle accident, Rishabh Pant has served as an inspiration to many. The wicketkeeper-batter was out of the game for more than 15 months. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised his recovery and recalled the terrible moments as he was immediately accepted into the T20 World Cup 2024 squad following a strong performance in the IPL 2024. India went on to win the title.

The Indian team won the championship in Barbados on June 29 and arrived in Delhi on July 4. PM Modi questioned Pant about his second innings following the mishap during their meeting.

The southpaw said that during the difficult times, the PM spoke with his mother, who also said that he even questioned the doctors about whether the cricket player should go overseas for more treatment.

“It was not easy for you to recuperate. I used to watch your social media updates, which would demonstrate how much you had accomplished one day and how much you had accomplished the next. I had talked to the physicians first and gotten their advice before I spoke with your mother. I requested that they take Pant and seek treatment outside of India if necessary. It’s incredible your mother had such self-assurance. A person with such a mother, in my opinion, will never fail. The Week cited PM as saying, “I had that opinion, and you showed that to the world.”

“You said that the accident was your responsibility when I spoke with you. That is significant because you did not provide an explanation, such as saying there was a ditch, etc. It was the transparency you displayed. I observe the little things in life and pick up tips from different people. You’ll motivate the Indian populace, he continued.

During the World Cup league stages, Pant stood up.

Pant was crucial to the tournament’s league stages, as the batter hit a game-winning blow against Pakistan, the team’s bitter rivals. Batting third in the competition, he scored a critical 42 runs and accumulated 171 points. But in the playoffs, the hitter appeared out of control, scoring four runs in the semifinals and a duck in the championship game.
