Piyush Chawla, a seasoned spinner for India, expressed his opinion over the middle order and supported Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul over Shreyas Iyer for the World Cup roster. Notably, on September 5, the BCCI All India Senior Men’s Selection Committee unveiled a 15-person roster for the high-profile competition.
Following the squad’s announcement, cricket enthusiasts and other players started discussing the lineup. Also commenting on the setup, Piyush supported Ishan and KL Rahul in the middle order but questioned the choice of Shreyas.
“Since we are discussing them both, why not Shreyas Iyer?” It’s also important to consider Shreyas Iyer’s position. Due to his performance in the first order, Ishan (Kishan) is no longer able to play in the reserves. People were curious about how he would bat in the middle order, but after entering the batting order in a difficult situation, he displayed good form and addressed the issue of the lack of a left-hander in the middle order that we frequently discuss, according to Piyush on Star Sports.
He is therefore a walk-in for me right away. If we talk about KL Rahul, he has such a strong track record and has achieved so much over the years,” he added.
Specialist wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan is Piyush Chawla
Ishan has been particularly impressive with the bat lately, recording scores of 82, 77, 55, and 52 in his past four ODIs, respectively. Shreyas, meanwhile, played his first game following surgery for a back injury and struggled to score huge runs for his team against Pakistan. In order to have a “specialist wicketkeeper,” the seasoned leg spinner Piyush Chawla suggested that the thought tank should support Ishan to play in the XI while playing in Chennai and Lucknow.
“Who should be the wicketkeeper? you questioned. Ishan Kishan is a specialist wicketkeeper, and when India plays in Chennai and Lucknow, the No. 1 wicketkeeper will be one as well, said Piyush.
