PCB considers shifting PSL 2023 locations following a financial conflict with the interim Punjab government

As a result of a financial dispute between the Pakistan Cricket Board and the local administration in Punjab, it is rumoured that the entire event may be relocated to Karachi. The PCB has invited all six franchise owners to a meeting to examine the issue on Friday afternoon.

The decision to relocate the tournament stems from a dispute between the governing body of cricket and the interim government of Punjab over security expenditures. It is believed that the Punjab government demanded an astounding PKR 450 million to host the tournament in Lahore and Rawalpindi.

“The PCB has never incurred such a substantial security expenditure, not even when organising the PSL in the United Arab Emirates.” The PCB believes that since the PSL is a national brand serving a significant national purpose, the government should support it wholeheartedly,” a source stated to the Dawn.
The PCB is unwilling to give in to the demands of the interim Punjab administration since it has already paid PKR 50 million to the previous regime, which was dissolved in January of this year, per an agreement. According to reports, the Sindh government does not expect the PCB to pay a portion of the security costs and has just requested compensation for catering to the security personnel, which is estimated to be around PKR 30 million.

Despite the fact that moving the locations will assist lower the PCB’s tournament-organizing expenses, the participating franchises may welcome the thought of last-minute venue adjustments. Not only will the teams be upset to miss the action in Lahore and Rawalpindi, but so will the fans, as Lahore is scheduled to host the tournament’s final.
