The Women’s Asia Cup 2024 campaign of young cricket player Shreyanka Patil was cut short due to a fractured finger. The all-rounder was hurt on Friday, July 19, at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, during India’s opening game against Pakistan, a team led by Nida Dar.
The news was verified by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) via a press release. It is noteworthy that during the second innings of the match against Pakistan, Shreyanka Patil hurt her left hand’s fourth finger while attempting to make a catch. In addition, she suffered a hand injury during her RCB career that prevented her from participating in a few Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 games.
But after her team’s championship success, the young player made a stunning recovery for RCB in the WPL 2024, finishing as the top wicket-taker and even taking home the emerging player of the season award.
Tanuja Kanwer, a left-arm spinner, was also selected to replace Patil in the side. Kanwer, who was one of the Indian squad’s four travelling reserves, will now start the competition in place of Patil. Although she hasn’t played for India yet, she had a strong WPL season with the Gujarat Giants. Kanwer ended as the Giants’ top wicket taker in the competition with 10 scalps from eight games at an economy rate of 7.13.
