For the first time, Australian captain Pat Cummins hopes to taste success in a Test series against India. Next month, the two dominant teams in international cricket will face off, with the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy at stake. On November 22, the opening Test in the highly anticipated series will take place in Perth.
Pat Cummins played for the Australian team that India defeated in the 2017 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The silverware has stayed with the Asian titans ever since. To reaffirm their supremacy in world cricket, Cummins and company have an opportunity to retake the championship. Over the course of his storied playing career, the renowned fast bowler has taken home a number of significant accolades. Among the major championships the 31-year-old has won are the Ashes, ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, and World Test Championship. His current goal is to have the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in his cabinet.
“I was considering it the other day. The only thing I haven’t truly crossed off my list is this one. I still haven’t defeated India in a Test series. The Sydney Morning Herald quotes Cummins as saying, “A few of the guys have, but I haven’t,” during an event. In the Border Gavaskar Trophy series, the Australian team’s captain, the talismanic cricketer, lost two games.
The people who selected me as captain thought I was capable before I did: Pat Cummins
The captain, Cummins, who was named in late 2021, talked candidly about his leadership responsibilities and how he eased into the position.
“You look up to the Australian captain your entire life, and you know who it is. You think, ‘Oh my god, they’re so successful, and they must have everything together.'” You suddenly realize that you’re going to be that kind of guy when you’re captain. In the early stages, I had a lot of support, and I guess people who had to make the decision picked me and believed I was capable of handling it before I even realized I was myself,” Cummins remarked.
