There are rumours of a developing breach between veteran players Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and recently anointed captain Hardik Pandya, which suggests that there is unhappiness within the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp. Tensions appear to be erupting behind the scenes as a result of MI’s miserable IPL 2024 campaign.
Prior to the current season, Pandya was named MI captain, taking Rohit’s long-standing position. Many MI supporters were upset by this choice, believing that Rohit ought to be captain of the team after leading them to five IPL championships.
The gap between the two camps reportedly reached a breaking point when Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav abruptly left the nets when Hardik showed up for a practise session, according to a story in Dainik Jagran.
According to the allegation, Pandya arrived as the former MI captain was hitting and halted his session right away. Following him out of the nets and without speaking to the MI captain at the time was Suryakumar and Tilak Varma.
The sudden exit of Rohit implies that he might still be upset at losing the captaincy after more than ten years. Things have not gotten any better for MI on the pitch. They are now the first team out of the playoff picture this season, having only won four of their 13 games.
There has also been criticism of Hardik’s leadership, with many wondering if MI made the correct decision in replacing Rohit. On May 17 at Wankhede Stadium, they will play their final game of the IPL 2024 season against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
