The 15-member team for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has been announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Following a comprehensive two-hour meeting on Friday, which was attended by Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq, Babar Azam, Bilal Afzal, Gary Kirsten, Mohammad Yousuf, and Wahab Riaz, the team was named. Babar Azam will be Pakistan’s captain for the World Cup, which starts in the United States and the West Indies on June 2.
Azam Khan, Usman Khan, Saim Ayub, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, and Abrar Ahmed are among the players making their T20 World Cup debuts. Additionally, Imad Wasim and Muhammad Amir, who reversed their retirement, have been admitted into the team. It is noteworthy that Amir, who was a member of the team that won the 2010 title, will be participating in his second T20I World Cup. Out of the fifteen members, eight have represented the Australian edition in the previous edition.
With a mix of youth and experience, this side is incredibly skilled and well-balanced. These athletes have been playing together for a while, and they appear poised and ready for the competition next month. Haris Rauf is bowling effectively in the nets and is totally fit. While it would have been great if he had received a game at Headingley, the PCB stated, as cited by their official website, “We are confident that he will continue to maintain an upward trajectory in the upcoming matches, as he will have an important role to play along with other strike bowlers in the T20 World Cup.”
