Young India Women’s National Cricket Team striker Shafali Verma received great acclaim from legendary India Women’s National Cricket Team captain Mithali Raj, who described her as a once-in-a-generation talent.
One of the most gifted batters on the India Women’s National Cricket Team is the 18-year-old Shafali Verma, who made her international debut for India in 2019 vs South Africa.
Mithali Raj, a batting icon whom declared her retirement from across all forms of cricket on June 8, 2022, stated she is a big fan of Shafali’s skills on the inaugural episode of the ICC’s new podcast, 100 percent Cricket.
The 18-year-old is the type of player, the 39-year-old continued, who can single-handedly win games for India vs any opposition in international cricket. She uttered:
“I have enjoyed her game a lot. I’ve observed that she is one player who can give India the victory over any offensive and any team on her own. She is another one of those athletes who only appears maybe once every generation.
Mithali, who participated in 232 ODIs, 12 Tests, and 89 T20 Internationals for the India Women’s National Cricket Team, added that after observing Shafali’s performances on the domestic circuit, she was impressed with her batting. She continued by stating that when Shafali played for Velocity under her coaching, she displayed unbridled strength in her shots. Mithali added detail:
“When I saw Shafali play against Indian Railways in a domestic match, she got a fifty, but I had a sight of a player who might turn the tide of the game with only one innings.
