Bangladesh batting coach David Hemp noted that he isn’t aware that the star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is playing against India with a finger injury. The former Bangladesh captain bowled only 21 overs in the first Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, proving extremely expensive. During one of his overs in the third innings, former India cricketer Murali Karthik mentioned that the veteran was carrying an injury, which affected his bowling.
He bowled 13 overs in the second, giving up 79 runs without hitting the target. According to Karthik, the cricketer bowled less because his finger was bloated and stiff and because he was also troubled by a shoulder issue.
“He underwent surgery on his left hand’s bowling finger, which is the tip of the finger. It is bloated, stiff, and devoid of any suppleness or movement. In his game commentary, Murali Karthik had stated, “It’s a combination of both because he is also having problems with his shoulder.”
Shakib bowled just eight overs in the game’s opening innings and gave up fifty runs
Hemp acknowledged that, looking back, he didn’t know the specifics of Shakib’s injury and that he wouldn’t be able to provide any updates.
“I apologise, I was not aware of that at all,” the batting coach for Bangladesh stated.
It’s still a good wicket: David Hemp
To win the first Test of the series, Bangladesh needs to score 515 runs in the last innings. It is a mountain to climb, but with the bat, the tourists have shown character. Day 3 saw the squad get off to a strong start thanks to Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan, while captain Najmul Shanto’s undefeated half-century will be vital to the club’s chances of winning the chase. Hemp, meantime, stated that although he knows the strong Indian bowlers would pose a threat on Test Day 4, the ground is excellent for the hitters to perform well on.

It’s still a decent wicket in terms of days to bat. We’ve seen today that (Ravichandran) Ashwin was able to get a few balls to bounce quite a bit. Even so, you can still score if you miss. Therefore, it remains a reasonable surface for us tomorrow. It goes without saying that India, who are playing at home, are a very confident team with some excellent bowling. Hemp said, “So, you’re going to be challenged.”
