When his side appeared to be down and out at 91 with the loss of seven tickets, Glenn Maxwell played the knock of his life after he smoked Afghanistan with a heroic double century.
Glenn Maxwell earned respect from all quarters while fighting cramping and back problems that made even walking difficult. The World Cup is already underway.
Authorities at Wankhede Stadium also praised the all-round player, and his photo atop the famous stand has gone viral online. Glenn Maxwell caused mayhem in Afghanistan at a time when Hashmatullah Shahidi and his soldiers appeared to be on the verge of a historic win. He hammered 201* off 128 with 21 fours and 10 sixes.
Cricket is such a beloved game, it gives us a hero from being down and out at 91/7 while pursuing a target of 292.
Climbing these stairs must have been a hard thing to do, but tonight you’ve created a legacy for yourself which would be tough to emulate.

The Men in Yellow placed their hopes of reaching the semi-finals on Maxwell when Afghanistan bowlers upset the powerful Australians with 91/7 in pursuit of a 292-run goal. For the five-time champs, the all-round player sacrificed blood, sweat, and tears to accomplish the seemingly impossible.
The 35-year-old made sure Australia didn’t have any problems when they lost seven wickets in 100 runs. With flawless assistance from captain Pat Cummins on the other end, Maxwell unleashed a carnage on Afghanistan that would leave them cold for eternity.
Afghanistan was trying to stay in the semi-finals until Ibrahim Zadran’s 129* off 143 helped them score 291 runs earlier in the game. Afghanistan, who lost the match by three wickets, is currently ranked sixth in the World Cup points standings and will be hoping to change the outcome of the next game in their favor.
