An unidentified person has been taken into custody for peddling fake tickets for the much awaited England vs. India World Cup cricket match at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium at exorbitant costs.
According to law enforcement, some 100 more websites are currently being looked into, and the Lucknow police’s cybercrime branch is actively looking for leads to find the owners of these websites.
The iccworldcuptickets.com website has been the source of fraudulent ticket sales during the last two weeks, according to the Lucknow police. Law enforcement discovered this fraudulent website, which was designed to fool cricket enthusiasts, and as a result, a FIR was filed at the Sushant Golf City police station against unknown persons. Joint Commissioner of Police Upendra Agarwal stated that Sub-Inspector Dhirendra Pratap Singh filed the FIR in advance of the crucial game set for Sunday.
Further elaborating, Singh said that the phony website was expertly crafted to entice fans of cricket, even though earlier warnings advised using the official ticketing partner, “BookMyShow,” to get World Cup tickets. People could easily fall for the fraud thanks to this design, disobeying the government advice. Singh claims that the fraudulent websites mislead people by offering tickets in six different categories at prices ranging from Rs 2,811 to Rs 50,000.
Social media profiles and websites are being monitored as the demand for World Cup tickets increases.
On the other hand, genuine tickets usually cost Rs 40,000 for the North Corporate boxes and Rs 499 for the East and West upper blocks. Rates of Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000 for upper and lower row tickets, and Rs 85,000 for North Lower and South Lower hospitality, are being advertised on a specific website. Police officials have stated that law enforcement has opened an inquiry into this fake social networking platform.
According to Prashant Kumar, the Special Director General of Law and Order for the Uttar Pradesh Police, suspected social media accounts involved in the unauthorized resale of World Cup cricket tickets at Ekana Stadium are being watched by special sections of the state police as well as the Lucknow police. He issued a warning, saying that anybody who did this would suffer serious repercussions.
