The match between England and New Zealand in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 will be officiated by Nitin Menon and Kumar Dharmasena. Kumar Dharmasena and Menon will be joined by TV umpire Paul Wilson, fourth umpire Shahid Saikat, and match referee Javagal Srinath for the group stage encounter, which is a rematch of the epic final from four years ago.
Menon will officiate his first ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup game, while Dharmasena became the first individual to play and officiate in an ICC Men’s 50-over Cricket World Cup final in 2015. Shahid will be the first umpire from Bangladesh to officiate a match.
They are all members of the 20-member crew that the ICC has named to officiate World Cup matches. This crew consists of 16 umpires, four match referees, and 12 members of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Umpires.
Six of those 16 umpires are making their World Cup debuts for the ICC Men’s Cricket, while three return after officiating in previous finals.
There are also 14 returning umpires from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022; the only ones who did not officiate in Australia were Shahid and Alex Wharf.
Richard Kettle borough and Marais Erasmus, who previously served as the tournament directors for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup finals in 2019 and 2015, respectively, are also back in addition to Dharmasena.
Both the Lord’s final in 2019 and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final in 2022 included Erasmus and Kumar Dharmasena in the middle.
The third of the four officials for the 2019 championship match, Rod Tucker, who officiated the final four years ago, was also chosen. Chris Gaffaney, Michael Gough, Paul Reiffel, Richard Illingworth, and Joel Wilson are among competitors who have returned from prior competitions.
Shahid, Ahsan Raza, Adrian Holdstock, Wharf, and Chris Brown are also making their ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup debuts along with 39-year-old Menon, who is from the host nation of India.
Jeff Crowe, Andy Pycroft, Richie Richardson, and Javagal Srinath, the four match referees, are all former international athletes.
