The name of star all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy would be on everyone’s mind after India defeated Bangladesh in the just finished three-game Twenty20 International series. Reddy established himself with a brilliant effort in the series’ second Twenty20 International, scoring 74 runs in 34 deliveries.
His parents, however, have been instrumental in his achievement, making many sacrifices to enable Nitish to play on the grandest platform. Nitish’s family might have moved into a much bigger and cosier house when the BCCI awarded him INR 2 lakh. But because it was near Nitish’s training, his parents decided to continue living in a rental house.
Mutyala Reddy, the father of the 21-year-old, recently spoke out about why he chose to stay in Visakhapatnam for his son’s sake rather than migrate to Udaipur after losing his government position there.
Mutyala Reddy was quoted by as saying, “At that time, Nitish was just learning the basics of cricket and I thought if I go to Udaipur, it would be difficult for him to manage with language, and we also weren’t sure about the facilities with regard to cricket, so I thought it would be better if I stay back at my native place and help Nitish pursue his passion.”
Notably, when Nitish Kumar Reddy father chose to retire early and focus on his son’s profession, he still had 25 years of service remaining.
He also highlighted how his wife constantly supported him despite criticism from some of his relatives for doing so.
“My wife was the one person I felt accountable to and worried about. I talked to her, advised her to live a modest life, and told her that we needed to reduce all wasteful spending. She simply nodded in acknowledgement without saying anything. To date, she has been my greatest source of strength, Reddy remarked.
“You look after our daughter’s schooling. Nitish and his cricket will be handled by me. His father had told his wife, Manasa, not to worry too much about his schooling.
For a parent who was having financial difficulties, watching his son play for India was a dream come true. Mutyala Reddy had hoped that Nitish would advance to the Ranji level and land a steady employment in
