The top-order’s inability to continue after getting off to a good start during the opening three-match T20I series against India on Sunday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, according to Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana, damaged Bangladesh.
By reaching 118-3 in 16.2 overs after limiting the hosts to 114-5, India defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets. In 8.3 overs, Bangladesh was comfortably positioned at 52/2, but the game got away from them, and India fought back with some careful bowling.
Shamima Sultana, the Bangladeshi opener, Shathi Rani, and one-down batter Sobhana Mostary all made starts in their innings but were unable to finish them as Harmanpreet Kaur did for her team, reaching an undefeated half-century to lead her team to victory.
After the game, Nigar Sultana told reporters, “We should have scored at least 140 runs and then it might have been a little difficult for them.” “I believe we have the ability. Given that they’ve been playing for the national team for so long, there is undoubtedly promise. I believe that each player will have to recover from this terrible patch on their own. Why would a player leave after a strong start if she is 25 years old? She must finish the inning, she said.
“Shot selection needs to be done with more attention. I believe a lack of focus could also be the cause. Why wouldn’t there be performance if the ability exists?
“I believe there was insufficient intention. You are playing because you have experience and because you are a member of the national team. The trainers train us in various scenarios as we play continuously. Even so, why can’t we do it?” she questioned.
Sultana claimed that she had higher expectations of the team’s more seasoned players. When there are a few dot balls and two additional players are attempting to conquer them, pressure can sometimes be applied to each player separately. When it comes from players who routinely represent their country, it is frustrating to observe. It is acceptable for those who are coming from the under-19 level.
“Basically, when I bat, my role is to start and complete the innings, and taking that into consideration, my runout is one of the major reasons why we didn’t score much against them.
“We played way too many dot balls in the middle over, in my opinion. The pitch was sluggish and low, and there was a turn as well, but we were still 20 to 25 runs short,” she remarked.
Deepti Sharma observed that the winning team’s seasoned bowlers outperformed the opposition and that the track was fairly challenging to bat on.
“They performed admirably on the powerplay and the middle innings. They had some promising young players, in my opinion, but we had veteran bowlers who knew where to bowl during the middle overs, so we basically carried out the strategy. Certainly, they have a chance to succeed in the days ahead,” added Deepti.
The wicket was slow and low, and we had to play for the circumstances, so it wasn’t an easy target. As a batting group, we took cover. They are clearly a very good bowling team, and they keep getting better series after series.
On July 11, Bangladesh will play against India in the following match at the same location.
