Discussions have revolved around Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli ever since the former was named the new head coach of team India. The southpaw and Kohli got into a furious dispute when the southpaw was captain of KKR, and Rajat Bhatia broke it up. Later, after an altercation between two cricket players in the IPL 2023, the situation worsened when additional players and support personnel became involved.
But in IPL 2024, things were different. At the KKR vs. RCB game at Chinnawamy Stadium, both Gambhir and Virat Kohli were seen grinning and conversing.
The key question following his appointment was whether or not they could keep the peace and cooperate for the benefit of Indian cricket, and Gambhir provided a prompt response.
Gambhir made it clear that his friendship with Kohli is not intended for TRP. He said that he gets along well with Kohli and that the former captain of India is a world-class athlete and complete professional. He also said that he expects Kohli to do well because he is a vital member of the team.
What sort of connection does Virat Kohli have that isn’t suitable for TRP? My partnership is private. It’s a partnership between two responsible adults. We have to be in agreement when playing the game. We get along really well, me and him. I’ve spoken with him frequently, albeit sporadically. We sent each other messages. “What we talked about before or after my announcement doesn’t matter,” Gambhir stated during his most recent press appearance.
“Just for the sake of making headlines. He is a top-tier player and a complete professional. I hope that our collaboration will be quite fruitful. It is our joint responsibility to make the nation proud. We speak for over a billion individuals. We must have the same understanding,” he continued.
