Musheer Khan: who is he? Everything you should know about this teenage sensation at bat

On Thursday, January 25, India’s U-19 World Cup 2024 campaign achieved a noteworthy milestone. In the South African version of the game, India’s first century was achieved by the 18-year-old gifted batsman Musheer Khan. Musheer Khan showed off his skills at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein during a group-stage encounter against Ireland. He scored an astounding 119 from 108 balls. With four sixes and nine fours in his innings, India U-19 amassed a dominant 305/5 in 50 overs.

For those who do not know, Musheer Khan is the younger sibling of Sarfaraz Khan, a well-known actor from Mumbai, with a remarkable age difference of over seven years. This cricket player is a left-arm orthodox bowler as well as a powerful right-handed top-order batsman.  In three matches, he demonstrated his talent by amassing 96 runs and taking two wickets.

In the previous Ranji Trophy season, Musheer Khan made his first-class debut for Mumbai.

His accomplishments went beyond domestic cricket, as evidenced by his outstanding performance in the U-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy, when he took the most wickets (22) and scored 438 runs. In a four-nation ODI series, Musheer Khan further cemented his reputation by playing for India A. With a scorching 47-ball 127 and a 2/53 bowling effort, he was instrumental in earning the trophy.

Prior to the ICC U-19 World Cup 2024, Musheer Khan, a key player for India’s U-19 team, showed steady form, scoring two half-centuries and taking five wickets against South Africa, among other achievements. India hopes to build on their outstanding performance in the final group match, which takes place at the same location on Sunday, against the USA.

Regarding the game today, India scored 301 for seven in the 50 overs that they were given. Apart with Musheer’s outstanding effort, Uday Saharan, the skipper, also made a significant contribution by scoring 75 runs off 84 balls. As of the most recent report, the Irish team is facing serious difficulties as they chase a goal of 302, standing at 45 for eight in 14.1 overs.
