A number of rumors were circulating that MI might not keep their former skipper and that Rohit might consider a change team as the IPL 2025 super auctions approached.
The Indian Express reported that the Hitman, along with Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik, might be one of the four franchise retentions. In addition to on-field disappointments, Hardik was jeered and insulted on the field and on social media, and the supporters were upset that Rohit was removed from the captaincy position.
